Dangerous Album and Heal The World
Michael Jackson’s 8th Album was Dangerous and was released in 1991. Dangerous was Michael’s fatest ever selling album in the US, with four million copies shipped in under two months. The album’s first single "Black or White" was its biggest hit, reaching number one on the Billbaord Hot 100 and staying there for seven weeks. It was Michael’s biggest hit since Billie Jean. The second single "Remember The Time" peaked at number three on the charts in the US. In other parts of the world, "Heal The World" was the biggest hit from the album.
The album’s music videos were among the most expensive and innovative of their time. The videos had complex story lines and featured celebrities such as Michael Jordan, Eddie Murphy, Magic Johnson and Naomi Campbell.
The video clip for Black or White was originally over 10 minutes in length and featured one of the earliest examples of computer generated morphing. This video was also controversial as it included Michael’s sexually suggestive dance, being the "crotch grab" as well as zipping up his pants.
In 1992, Michael founded the "Heal The World Foundation". The purpose of the organization was to provide medicine to children and combat world hunger, homelessness, child abuse and to improve conditions for children around the world. The foundation also brought underprivileged children to Michael’s Neverland ranch. It sent millions of dollars to help children affected by war and disease.
In 1992, Michael went on the Dangerous World Tour. All the profits from the concerts went to the Heal The World Foundation which raised millions of dollars. Michael helped draw attention to HIV/AIDS and visited Africa
In 2002, the Heal The World Foundation was disbanded due to failure to lodge yearly accounting statements. As a result, it lost its tax exempt status.
