Epic Records and ‘Off The Wall’
In June 1975, the Jackson 5 signed with CBS Records, later Epic Records and renamed themselves The Jacksons. They continued to tour around the world and released six further albums between 1976 to 1984. Michael was the main songwriter during this time and some of the hits he wrote were "Can You Feel It", "Shake Your Body" and "This Place Hotel".
Michael starred as the scarecrow in the musical, The Wiz in 1978. It was in this musical that he teamed up with Quincy Jones – Quincy was arranging the film’s musical score. Quincy agreed to product Michael’s next solo album Off The Wall.
In 1979, Jackson had hisfirst plastic surgery which was a rhinoplasty as a result of breaking his nose in a complex dance routine.
The album Off The Wall was produced Quincy and Michael together and was released in 1979. It was the first album to generate 4 US top 10 hits including "Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough" and "Rock With You". It eventually sold over 20 million copies internationally. Michael won 3 awards at the American Music Awards in 1980 and he also won the Billboard Music Awards for Top Black Artist and Top Black Album and a Grammy. He also secured the highest royalty rate in the music industry, being 37% of wholesale album profit.
